A fully Risograph-printed book that utilizes intentional type choices, curated imagery, and rich color to tell the heartwarming story of American Apple Conservationist, Tom Brown.
Tasked with capturing the personality of any figure in a printed zine, I knew immediately that I wanted to create a book about Tom Brown. Inspired by his discovery that apple production has become overwhelmingly homogenous, Brown dedicates his time to preserving nearly-forgotten apple varieties. His passion for these rare fruits made it easy to give this project the same kind of care and attention.
In a rare departure from illustrating my projects, I leaned on archival resources to curate the imagery for this book.
Using Brown's own anecdote as a starting point, I looked to turn-of-the-century agricultural catalogues for inspiration.
In order to create a more textured and earthy experience, I exclusively used Risograph printing. Other methods were far less time-intensive, but this was a labor of love.
